The BSO presents Avant-garde silent movies
A new evening of live soundtrack composition on a selection of short silent movies.
Directed by Hada Benedito, 13 musicians of the Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra will build a collective musical improvisation, composed in real time using the Soundpainting sign language, to accompany 5 short surrealist silent movies.
An evening to discover the interplay between live composition and major experimental videos of the 1920’s.
Un Chien Andalou – Luis Bunuel/Salvador Dalí
L´Etoile De Mer – Man Ray
Le Retour A La Raison – Man Ray
Ballet Mechanique – Fernand Leger
Anemic Cinema – Marcel Duchamp
Soundpainting is the international sign language for live composition. The language comprises more than 1200 gestures that are signed by the Soundpainter to indicate the type of material desired of the performers. The creation of the composition is realized through the parameters of each set of signed gestures.
